Meet Tyrone Lang - Austalia's first and only Disney Live! star. Here he talks about what inspires him, his biggest supporters and the role his Mum played in helping him realise his dreams.
Hi Tyrone, so how did you get started in this industry?
My mother enrolled me in skating classes when I was 5 years old because I was very energetic as a child.
I've got two energetic little boys so I can relate to that :) I bet "Disney Star" was the last thing on her mind when she enrolled you! When did you realise you wanted to become a professional performer?
I would say 7 or 8 after having danced for a few years and seeing a couple of professional shows it was something I knew was for me.
I love that you were so driven from such a young age! What was your first professional gig?
I do believe it was a week of shows as a part of a festival, at the Kinross Pub when I was 10-11.
What was it like to be offered a role in Disney Live! ?
At first, it was all very surreal, but once it sunk in it was an amazing feeling. Being the first and only Australian performing in any Disney Live! show is such an honour.
What advice would you give to parents whose children aspire to be in the entertainment industry?
It's hard work but a rewarding industry to be a part of. Performing teaches you so much about yourself and life without you even knowing. Point your kids in the right direction and watch them blossom.
What's the best advice you've received?
Never forget where you came from.
It's those people and those moments and those places that made you ready to be where you are today.
And do you have a "life motto"?
"Dream Big" - What you put out to the universe eventually the universe will give back to you so dream big, work hard and stay humble and you seriously cannot go wrong.
What do you admire most?
I admire anyone who has the guts to be who they want to be. In our day an age there are so many labels that are given to people for being "different".
Those people who keep being true to themselves and continue doing what they do should be admired by all.
How has your Mum helped you to realise your dreams?
My mum is my best friend, whether it was working extra hours so I could do an extra class or whether it was driving me to competitions, classes or workshops, she was always there by my side. She kept me grounded and encouraged me to work hard. She worked hard for me so I worked harder for myself to show her that what she was doing wasn't going to waste. Back then I definitely didn't thank her enough - So MUM thank you and I love you forever.
I reckon your Mum would have flown to the moon and back ten thousand times more if it meant seeing you happy, healthy and living the life you dreamed of. I'm sure your words now just make that all the more worthwhile. You're both very lucky to have each other, and I thank you for sharing a little part of your world with Mama Pyjama. We can all take a lot of inspiration from the life you have built for yourself and from the dreams you have made reality. Congratulations Tyrone, and enjoy the Disney Live! tour. Xo
